HEARTBREAK HOTEL for the first time about 2-3 weeks after writing down "play lupos within the year" in a planning notebook. i'm really excited, we're on a tribute night so playing a bunch of fun bluesy covers too.

things is good, record's being mixed, artwork's being done by Jesse Hayes <a

lots of charity going on too. couple weeks ago my trio was the backing band for a make a wish fundraiser in boston that raised enough $ to grant 2 wishes! we're playing a lifecycle event to help local cancer treatment charities next month, as well as the annual Tomorrow Fund Stroll in garden city cranston.

also, starting to gig with some old friends in boston playing rock your face off cover music, stay tuned for playing with ingrid gerdes & andre lovelle some more, as well as in a new band with tim butterworth. into the great wide open...

glad that while artistic progress is being made, getting to play for good causes too. check all these organizations out, they mean a lot to me, and come rock with us @ LUPOS for the 1st time!!!

tweet type='text'>packaging, amp

tweet tweet

it's aliiiiiiive! i bought a 50 watt maven peal tuskadaro amp head off eBay last week and after some stress and some lack of customer service on the part of the original builder i dropped it to Bob Lippet @ NOLL GUITARS in cranston and had the bias pot replaced. holy man does this thing do beautiful things! the guys at the shop were going nuts over it too. so far i've only tried it with 1 type of power tubes and through the speaker section of another amp, but i'm pumped. gonna order an AVATAR 4x12 cab to go with it.

but. i can't decide on speakers. 4 greenbacks? 4 vintage 30's? 2 v30's and 2 G12H's?

i know i lost about half my audience for a bit just now (so 1 person out of both of you stopped reading) but this is important stuff! TONE!

also making decisions on the packaging for the record. i got the mando and fiddle tracks back from SEAN STAPLES. He and DAN KELLAR sound great. so i'm looking at a double disc digi-pak order where you open it up and the electric disc is on one side and the acoustic on the other. pumped.

and just spent a bunch of time in back bay at berklee's career center getting geared up and educated for the tour to promote the sucker. so much information, drivin me insane. but busy's good right? long as it leads me to you, baby

tweet tweet
writing

tweet tweet

i started writing a lot again. some of it has to do with seeing great shows, some of it has to do with having a new notebook, some of it has to do with traveling (ride the L at 3am and see if nothing occurs to you), and some of it has to do with maggie gyllenhaal (saw crazy heart last night and my inner country songwriter reared it's dusty head).

i've spent a lot of time and energy over the past few years working on my voice, my guitar playing, my trios, and my record (and at least thrice as much time thinking about said vox/playing/band/album). now that the record's out of my hands in a lot of ways, that my chops have evolved a bunch, and that i've got some tools and talenteds set up to do my thing with, what else?

i've always kept a running titles list. i stop when ever one's falling out and take the time to pass the whole enchilada. i have a million scraps in a folder on "he'sbacbook". but i'm happy to be finishing complete lyrics. happy to have some guitar parts i'd play for 8 hours in a row without a worry it'll suggest the next section eventually.

i feel like i'm at the end of some time on a secluded martial arts island where my most difficult final pushes through training and patience are upon me and remembering to write is helping me find my way back around full circle and making me happy.

may i never stop writing type='text'>genuine article

tweet tweet

saw some great blues last night. my favorite singer and artist in boston is probably dennis brennan and he plays with a band called the white owls when not doing his own thing. he makes me wanna play harp. he makes me wanna sell all my stuff quit all my jobs and thumb it around the country with a guitar.

before that, on wednesday, i went to an open mic in providence. little baby steps in part of something i'm going to start referring to as the BIG PLAN. the BIG PLAN is good for everyone, especially you and me, so contact your local representative and tell them you support it. anyway, played Ain't No Fury, then Lamb, then Worst in Me. went over really well, reminded me how much i like being alone onstage and with only the lyrics and a not-so-loud way of playing an acoustic. you can grab people by the neck and toss them somewhere emotionally when you play it right.

anyway, still catchin up from my trip, time to go. come see us thursday, we're planning some jimi (as usual)

tweet tweet<div for the pictures on facespace. i spent a day in NY after getting back to keep the adventure alive and have been re-pumped to be a man of the world ever since. blocked off the calendar and am DA DA, DA DA DA! that may be getting ahead of myself, i've done 20 miles on a bike, 4 running, and i look like a busted fishing lure in the water these days, but i think getting all he-manly might be nice. not to be confused with scott manley - great drummer if you're in LA. by the way if we do do some sort of running event our team is called the primary colors. joey's the blue ranger, brianna's the yellow ranger and i'm the red one of course.

i've been practicing a lot in the late hours too, diving into my old studies. jazzy, classical, and traditional they may be, but i always feel more comfortable playin blues and screamin rock when actively wankin, chopsing and being a fretboard cartographer by candle light in my off time.

drelove music's singers are coming over saturday to add some authentic LOVE LOVE LOVE to the end of I Wanna Love. that's pretty exciting, real gospel singing, on my record! i think i've got lead VOX in the can for Lay Your Fiddle Down, She Doesn't Know, and Big Dream now too, just gotta comp. the band and the solo experience have been cooking up a new original tune or 2 and i've got some new cover ideas that'll satisfy too. i do the guy singing a song originally by a girl about a guy thing backwards well. stonesy version of Hot n Cold, and a dark 6/8 Gloria Gaynor. speaking of tedious, at other times horribly frustrating, punctuated with short bursts of pride and excitement. i designed it myself with some help from boygenius.com sean correia. it was fun though, engrossing too. i'm sure it will continue to be interesting. i'm going to keep updating it. all is quiet here in pawtucket aside from the trucks coming back home to the factory loading docks next door. backing in. beep beep beep. i kinda wish my car made that noise, only it might be more sickly at the moment, someone rammed my ass last week on 10 south. the band sounded GREAT today at rehearsal and we're gonna knock em up... dead, dead i mean dead at Jerky's tomorrow. we have a new sign too! email me if you want info on how to get a high quality vynl sign for really cheap. no, not from china. gigs lately have been really fun too, tink's last week was a real blast with Roger Williams U graduates singing along, special guest on harp ronny french (shamon), and announcements from the leader of their softball team - note to self, on breaks at a bar gig TURN THE MIC OFF. memorial day in lincoln was a good time as always too. haven't shaved yet for tomorrow's show... should i do the hyde half beard? should i rock the costume? i have the feeling the boys might still be holding back a little in the wardrobe dept so it might be a little weird. we'll see, i'll concoct something. just need to keep my grandmothers and aunts away from my costuming, they want to sew the holes in my jeans shut. i tell them it's ventilation
<a onblur="try guitar hero into my bedroom at 3am, and care for a child in a manner that promotes a consistant bloody scream at all hours of the night accompanied by the yips of a malnourished chiwouwa have a problem with me working during the daytime. well that's just lovely. so, i've left love notes being mr. friendly. but i warn these losers and landlords of the lofts that if this becomes a problem that there's anything wrong with that!) got an HD projector. we're watching obama tell us about the economy, Carlos Santana scream on a PRS, and Robert Downey Jr. do whatever he does 8 feet tall. it's pretty great, we're having movie nights, playing giant wii, and since i watch lots of concert dvds in the morning while i eat cereal and panetone and do my calisthenics - i get to study my guitar heroes in action.

i need to work on my faces. SRV made great faces, jimi made this stretched weaving the threads of the universe together face, Clapton makes this pained thang. i need a face. i don't want it to be a face people'll wanna punch it's so goofy, but something emotive. i love john mayer's playing and his artistry since his 3rd record, but his faces make me wanna knock his expensive 2 roks over and yell at him.

been working here at the loft a lot, it's been productive. anyone that syncs things

CHRONOSYNC

it's awesome. as my little bro says, i'm livin dream. HJY's playlist makes me almost as mad as JM's faces though. with something in her mouth

oh and i'm doing yoga now, it's pretty intense, my core muscles haven't been this sore since i met paris hilton last year. and my right shin is still dented from a PA head falling on it last week. check out the pic on twitter

follow ericfrench, i post often. also, comment somewhere what you'd like to hear the band cover, we're building our repertoire.

tweet tweet

isolation, so LoneLAY

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; what of the opera singer who gets throat cancer and has his voice removed? i wonder if the people this type of thing happens to retain their passion and zeal, yet channel it in a new way - into a new form of expression. i've heard a lot of folks say there's zen in everything, and i imagine it's true that when you become an expert in one discipline that you gain insight into the journey to realize every other art and science. i wonder, however, if it's possible to feel the same love for a second dream after the first has been snatched away. perhaps... what of the widowed who find love again? CT, you're gorgeous. if CT were a woman, and i were a man... oh man. tweet tweet.

NEWS ALERT - EFMH MKII may have just birthed itself.... and it's a boy! i'd say he's about 5'10, 150, brown eyes? after a year of searching around the next incarnation of the band was in my own backyard. looks like wally's gonna be lockin in with mr. eric kalver on the drums! another fine young Cranston/ Boston boy! and you know what they say, 2 erics are better than 1! well, actually, i've been saying that awhile what with the nice acoustic eric french and the bluesifyin electric burnin up the rails explodin freight train eric f!@#ing french on the scene... so i guess 3 erics are better than 2. we should be booking shows as a trio soon. tweet tweet.

spendin NYE with mister "get to know er MATT NAKOA", another fine boston boy to check out. what are you doing? are you kissin? are you missin? are you taking stock of your life to lay it out in front of you on a nice fresh gregorian plot? this year is the year, right? so was last year, and so will it be next year. but not in a sarcastic tone... i think the take stock and think ahead with a clear sense of new opportunity thing is great to do on a regular basis. i think it keeps us all focused, and anyone that doesn't keep a nice pot of self awareness simmering on the stove that they go and stir once in a while is gonna end up going hungry. and if it's there but you're afraid to go stir it up, you're gonna find out the bottom is burned when you go to eat it. lunchtime metaphor... yet all the same, this time we've got, this life we're living isn't just a cyclical thang, it's also a one time ride, straight shot corridor we're barreling down. unless you believe in reincarnation. i recently started paradise lost by milton along with a book to help me understand and appreciate it. alongside that i'm reading a book by a man that decided to live literally by the rules of the bible for an entire year. "you say you want a resolution weeelll you know..." so in short, i think we should join Bally's, practice our harmonica playing more, and ask that cute thing on the train out for a date. but, i like to realize that this isn't a this year thing, it's a this life thing if it's gonna count. we're the ones that tied time to a circular face spinning round, and into rows and piles of playboy/ harley/ kitten calendars sitting on the B&N bargain shelf now that christmas is over. really it's an intangible succession of moments marching forward and tickin down for each of us, so make the most of it without getting caught up in compartmentalizing it for yourself. time's a wide open sky, and you're a bird baby - tweet tweet.

ps i might get a marshall halfstack- it's all over now

world wide whipout

i'm about to make my presence felt all over the internet. or i'm about to feel up the internet, however you'd like to look at it. things are about to hit critical mass, shit-fan-boom, she doesn't know just yet, but she's about to. stay tuned for the launch of

www.ericfrench.com
efMH on facebook
efMH on myspace
efMH twittering
efMH blogging - well obviously, seeing as that's where we are
efMH on reverbnation

corresponding with new photos by a local providence artist, new designs and wardrobing by Mr. himself, the debut record eric french & Mr. Hyde all finished and glossy, souveneirs to go with it, and a brand new band featuring Wally Skorupski on electric bass.

nuff news, what's there to be thinking about? our new lease. you and i are moving in together, didn't you know? we gonna get a brand new stove to heat the place right, you know, keep it warm, stead of just glowin and glarin, keep us burnin stead of just showin and starin. we gonna be sharin a lil bathroom all shiny and white, we gonna be tight, i'm gonna know how you smell, you gonna know how i bite, we gonna fuss and fight... but at the end of the night we just might end up in bed, alright? i feel like walkin out on everything worth walkin out on and bein unafraid to be signin lines n spittin in hands, clappin with a fellow man over everything worth the time it takes to understand. time's almost up for late night plans, sun's shootin through the blinds, glass is runnin out of sand and it's time to run the race we ran a thousand times in our minds. gun's still in the drawer from the act before, you know what's in store, don't be afraid, slam the glass down and pour. BANG

i love all these ways we communicate today, dress up our little glass windows into a virtual world, each of us a star on a low rated show an ever increasing number of virtual people are virtually watching. i'm a complete geek for the stuff, and as you read above, i'm about to start taking it pretty seriously in a professional way as an artiste, but i believe it can only be beautiful when accompanied by real human action and genuine interaction- in a physical world. i think it's the revolution everyone goes on about, but only if we use it, not just booze on it. i think it could be a tom morello riff, an assertive assault on every venue it's users poke into, or it could be a numb night in the glow of reruns and starting to eat healthy tomorrow while Nickelback plays on the radio behind you. i think we all have more energy than someone would like us to believe and are cutting out paper snowflakes with a full set of powertools. whether it's an expression of politic, art, love, thought, comedy, music, i think there's a lot of room for active life, and there's too much passivity in the air. i've been reading a lot of "classics", and a lot of essays. a lot of punks from a lot of different places and times, and i think they'd love the toolset we've got right now for living this world and i've been thinking i'd like to be a big part of growing into the biggest, baddest pair of pants we've seen so far.

EFF
